STATUS
In Development

Stage 1 of the Nanutarra redevelopment focuses on the conservation and adaptive reuse of the historic Homestead precinct. Working within a place of recognised cultural and heritage significance, the project seeks to stabilise, repair and reactivate the existing buildings while supporting their ongoing use by the PKKP community.

The Homestead complex represents an important part of the Ashburton region’s pastoral history and remains one of the Pilbara’s most intact examples of early station architecture. The project acknowledges this history while recognising the significant contribution of Aboriginal station workers and the enduring connection of Traditional Owners to Country.

Rather than introducing substantial new built form, the design adopts a conservation-led approach. Existing buildings are retained and adapted for contemporary use, significant fabric is repaired, and missing elements are reinstated where supported by historical evidence. Carefully considered new interventions are detached, subservient and reversible, allowing the Homestead to continue evolving while maintaining its established character and significance.
