CHANGING PLACES

Description
A Changing Places facility for the City of Canning at their Civic Gardens. An adult Change Facility is a bathroom, inclusive of a toilet and change facilities and other specialised equipment which allows users that are highly dependent on carers to use the toilet in a safe, dignified, and comfortable manner. These are specialised facilities that require a high level of design input to meet strict compliance requirements. In addition to the functional requirement of providing inclusive and universally accessible public toilet facilities to support the major events hosted at the City’s Civic Gardens, a key objective was to provide a demonstration project to promote the City’s Sustainability Plan. The primary design features and sustainability initiatives which were implemented include the construction methodology and site planning, a green roof and waterwise garden, and solar tubes for natural ventilation and daylighting.
